This past Friday, Minnesota Department of Health turned the dial, just a bit for our Minnesota communities. The move to create and allow for “Essential Caregivers” in senior settings is one option to provide personal care and meaningful connections between residents and their loved ones. This guidance is the next ‘interim’ step in encouraging safe and responsible visitation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are currently reviewing the guidance developed by MDH. We are in the process of developing policies and reviewing the process of how this will work. Much like outdoor visitations, we need a few days to get policies and procedures in to place. We anticipate those policies being in place no later than July 25th. While we understand the need to move quickly, we need to do this right. You are a partner in helping protect our communities from this virus. Please be patient as we implement the Essential Caregiver guidance. As the virus is still being transmitted throughout our state, we may need to change options based on a resident’s status of COVID-19 and the overall status of COVID-19 in our settings.
While this is a welcomed step forward, we are looking forward to the day we can open our doors once again to families, visitors and volunteers.
